We have just completed the novel Tuck Everlasting. As a class, we did a read aloud with reading comprehension discussion questions at the end of each chapter. We watched the disney DVD of Tuck Everlasting, and compared the movie to the novel. We also discussed the moral of the story: "We should not fear death, but fear a life unlived". Beginning this week, we will be starting an new novel study on the novel Hana's Suitcase. This novel depicts the events of the Holocaust seen through the eyes of a young Jewish girl named Hana Brady. Students will discuss the the big idea of empathy and acceptance of others regardless of our differences. Please be prepared to bring in an old suitcase or a similar size box in order to complete their own suitcase project.
